Course Overview

Gunwerks is all about the perfect shot. We train to hunt, and success is the only outcome worthy of pursuit. Everything comes down to preparation. Our advanced equipment simplifies most of the difficult aspects of long-range shooting and requires a modern approach to training and curriculum. With Gunwerks equipment and training, our students achieve more capability in less time than any other training in the world.

We believe in a “building blocks" approach to training where each course builds upon the previous. Our Foundation, Development and Application Level courses (Level 1, 2 and 3) are broad based and will turn you into a well-rounded long range shooter and hunter.

In our Level 1 and Level 2 courses, we provide suppressed Magnus rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor and match grade ammunition. This is the perfect training platform with good long range ballistics and minimal recoil. In our Level 3 courses, we encourage you to bring your own rifle and ammunition to develop skill and confidence with your own rifle system.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Foundation Course

In our 2-day Foundation Course, we focus on building your skills and knowledge base. You will learn about the long range shooting system, the components, and the setup needed to be successful at long range. If you are a novice shooter you will learn the basic foundations from which to build on. If you are an experienced shooter we guarantee you will pick up valuable knowledge and techniques to improve your capability. You will learn how to utilize a ballistic program, how to “true” the program to your live fire results, and the basics of compensating for wind. In addition we provide an overview of the Gunwerks and Revic product lines to help you select the products which best suit your needs and hunting style.

Development Course

In the spirit of progression, our 2-day Development Course builds on the Foundation you learned. You will learn the more technical aspects of long range shooting such as spin drift, temperature, altitude, and coriolis effect. You will learn the science behind the ballistics, how to range effectively and accurately, and how to read wind. You will learn the science behind a “cold bore shot”, which for a hunter is really the only shot that matters. You will learn how to build stable long range shooting positions in the field, utilizing your hunting gear and what nature provides. A large part of being an effective hunter is learning to perform under stress and pressure in the moment of truth. We will introduce you to stress inoculation drills to help you prepare for those moments when all your dreams, the money you have spent, the time preparing, and the once in a lifetime tag all come down to one moment and one perfect shot.

Application Course

This 2-day course is designed for mountain hunters. Mountainous terrain is unique in that shots are often taken at an angle, and the mountainous terrain makes wind very tricky. This is an “owners” class, meaning we encourage you to bring your own rifle and ammunition. Rental rifles are always available if you prefer. You will learn how to calculate for inclination, read wind in an environment where there is rarely mirage, build shooting positions, and put it all together in scenario-based field situations. We believe in using technology, however we also realize that batteries die and cold fingers and gloves are not compatible with touch screens. We don’t want one dead battery to ruin a hunt, so we believe you should always have some old school backup techniques to function without a wind meter, a ballistic program, or a laser rangefinder. In this class we teach you these back-up techniques.

The class will be held at our private shooting facility just outside of Cody Wyoming. Our large mountain property features a steel target course integrated into the natural land contours.

 
 


Gunwerks will provide snacks, lunch, and plenty of water, soda, and coffee while attending our courses.  Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions ahead of time so that we can facilitate meals for you. 

Our Level 3 Application courses are designed to be graduate level training. As such, we encourage to bring your own rifle and setup as if you were going into the field hunting. This is the opportunity for you to take the skills learned in Foundation and Development courses on Gunwerks supplied rifle systems and apply that knowledge and skill in the field on your own rifle system. However, we may be able to supply a rental rifle for this course as needed. Please contact us for more details.

The course starts at 9:00 a.m. and our Facility opens at 8:45 am - no need to show up earlier!  The course ends between 4-5 p.m. every afternoon, depending on how well you are shooting!

We will need the final payment completed two weeks before the event start date to keep the registration valid.

We are not requiring any course pre-requisites, but you will be behind, and our team is not able to rehash the content in-situ.  All of our courses offer significant information and training value.

We recommend registering for one of our Foundation (L1) and Development (L2) level courses to begin with. This will help you build a perfect foundation for moving on to more advanced courses such as this one.

Lodging:

Your destination City is Cody, Wyoming. We recommend early booking for Cody Lodging. As a primary corridor for Yellowstone Park Tourism, summertime hotels book up early!  We recommend the following hotels and campgrounds:

Flights:

If traveling by commercial plane, you should fly into Yellowstone Regional Airport, (airport code COD). You can fly Delta through Salt Lake City, or United through Denver.  

If you are traveling on private aircraft, the FBO is Choice Aviation (307) 587-9262

If YRA can’t accomodate your schedule, try Billings, Montana, Billings Logan International Airport, (airport code BIL). Cody is a 2 hour drive south of Billings, plan accordingly.


Car Rentals:

Please make car rental plans with your flight arrangements, Gunwerks does not offer transportation to and from the facility for the course. 

Our shooting facility is in Burlington Wyoming, plan on a daily 45 minute drive from your Cody hotel.

Students Discounts:

Students are eligible for up to a 10% discount on in stock firearms within 90 days of completing a class. 

Book all levels and save! 10% discount for booking the full Long Range University curriculum.

Booking Requirements:

To secure an event date, a deposit payment is required. Final payment is due 15 days prior to the earliest event date.

Student Cancellation:

If you need to cancel a training or competition more than sixty (60) days prior to the earliest event date, your deposit will be refunded. If you cancel a training or competition in less than sixty (60) days but more than thirty (30) days prior to the earliest event date, you can rebook the training or competition for an available alternate date. If you cancel a training or competition less than thirty (30) days prior to the earliest event date, your deposit is forfeited and non-refundable.  If you cancel a hunting event (other than an African hunt) more than one hundred twenty (120) days from the start of the hunt, your deposit is fully refundable. If cancelled less than one hundred twenty (120) days from the start of the hunt, the deposit is forfeited.

Gunwerks reserves the right to change or amend these policies at any time.

Student Rebooking:

If you need to rebook a class MORE than thirty (30) days before your scheduled class date, you may rebook (transfer to another class) without any fee. 

If the rebooking is to a more expensive class, you are responsible for the price difference. If the rebooking is to a less expensive class, you will receive a refund of the price difference.

Gunwerks Class Cancellation:

In rare circumstances, Gunwerks may need to cancel a class. If this occurs, you will be notified as soon as possible and given the option of either a full refund or a move to another course of the same value.
