Experience Overview

The L103 Equipment Readiness course is your opportunity to gain familiarity and confidence with your rifle and ensure it is ready for your hunt. A Gunwerks Instructor will assist you in confirming zero, validating the trajectory, and syncing it with your ballistic app or Revic BR4 Ballistic Rangefinder. You will have the opportunity to shoot targets at different ranges, using your preferred support equipment, while receiving instruction on the process to achieve first shot hits. We prefer that you bring your rifle in ready condition. We can provide troubleshooting if you have a Gunwerks system, which is our preference (obviously)! When this class is conducted at our Sheep Mountain Range, we will meet at our Cody office in the morning and caravan out to the range.

Long Range University Overview

Long Range University
Our course curriculum is always evolving! Over the past couple of years, we have developed a new organization of training content, facilitating a more focused and progressive learning experience. Now our courses are organized into two parallel tracks, Ballistic Science and Marksmanship Skills, culminating in our Advanced training courses.

 
Ballistic Science

The core Long Range University curriculum is contained in our Ballistic Science track. We place a heavy emphasis on the science of long-range shooting. Generally, you will spend time in the classroom introducing concepts, followed by range demonstration and exercise to solidify complex topics.

Marksmanship Skills

The second track is our Marksmanship Skills track where we place a heavy focus on developing shooting skills. Light on the classroom, these courses spend most of the time teaching practical applications on the range.

Advanced Training

When you are ready to test your skills, we offer several advanced courses to challenge you and your equipment in calculated conditions to refine your experience and capabilities.  From mountain shooting venues to pronghorn hunting in New Mexico to a precision rifle competition, we can offer you the opportunity to achieve the next level.

Itinerary

Day 1

  • Meet at Gunwerks Headquarters and caravan to Sheep Mountain
  • Range - zero confirmation
  • Trajectory validation, true ballistic profile if necessary
  • Lunch
  • Range - shooting drills, 300 - 1000 yards
  • Caravan back to Gunwerks Headquarters
  • Debrief, and perform any equipment maintenance required

Sheep Mountain Range

Cody, Wyoming
Our Sheep Mountain Training facility is located approximately 30 minutes West of Cody in the Absaroka Mountains. Nestled in the heart of the Absaroka Mountains the rugged terrain offers breathtaking views of Buffalo Bill Reservoir and combined with the unpredictable weather patterns in the area, make for a realistic and challenging training environment. This location offers significant mountain wind conditions, steep terrain, practical shooting platforms, and extreme long range target opportunities. We've been training long range hunting for over 15 years and this is one of our favorite field shooting ranges! Sheep Mountain is the ultimate location to prep for your next mountain hunt.

If your course requires access to the upper platforms, we use brand new Jeep Wrangler 4X4 vehicles to transport people and equipment to the ultra-rugged shooting stations. For most of the courses and competitions we hold at this location, we prefer the students to use their equipment as an opportunity to gain confidence while stress testing personal gear. The Jeeps are setup with bed caps and truck vaults to safely store your equipment while traveling.

Some courses will be based solely on the lower deck. Students will be allowed to drive their vehicles to the site.

Yes, we will either have a catered lunch, or take an order from a local sandwich shop.

Class starts at 9:00 AM and wraps up about 4:00 PM. Please do not arrive before 8:30 AM

Student Provides:

  • If not Rented - Rifle system, we can provide troubleshooting for Gunwerks system only

  • If not Rented - Shooting gear, including bipods and tripods

  • If not Rented - Minimum tools and supplies for 80 shots

  • If not Rented - Rangefinder, we recommend the G7 BR2 or the Revic BR4 (we'll help you set it up)

Car Rentals:

Please make car rental plans with your flight arrangements, Gunwerks does not offer transportation to and from the facility for the course.
Our shooting facility is in Burlington, Wyoming. Plan on a daily 45 minute drive from your Cody hotel.

General Policies

  • All applicants for our training courses must be US citizens not legally barred from possessing firearms. For non-US citizens interested in a training course, please call us directly (307) 296-7300

  • All event attendees must complete our liability and media waiver

Student Cancellation

Training/Competition:
If you cancel a training registration more than sixty (60) days prior to the earliest event date, your deposit will be refunded in full.  If you cancel a training registration less than sixty (60) days but more than thirty (30) days prior to the earliest event date, you can rebook the training or competition for an available alternate date.  If you cancel a training registration less than thirty (30) days prior to the earliest event date, all payments toward the class are forfeited and non-refundable.

Gunwerks Class Cancellation:
In rare circumstances, Gunwerks may need to cancel a class. If this occurs, you will be notified as soon as possible and given the option of either a full refund or a move to another course of the same value. Gunwerks reserves the right to change or amend these policies at any time.

Deposit/Final Payment Schedule

  • A deposit is required for reservation

  • Balance due 30 days prior to a training or competition event to maintain your reservation - don't worry, we'll remind you when it's time!
