Experience Overview

Thank you for considering our Gunwerks Long Range East Cape Experience in South Africa with John X Safaris. In order to maximize your experience with us we have included some useful information below to help you plan for your trip. Our 2021 Africa Long Range East Cape Experience will be hosted by our friends and long-time Gunwerks supporter at John X Safaris. Taxidermy services will be provided by Splitting Image Taxidermy. Gunwerks is taking booking and reservations for 2020. See below for a list of waivers, documentation, and a schedule of fees for the event, or feel free to call us any time to discuss in detail. Woodlands Safari Estate

With over forty different species available to hunters, from the tiniest Blue Duiker to the largest antelope in Africa, the Cape Eland, all occurring in a variety of habitats, John X Safaris have found the need to establish camps within the moister southern and drier northern regions of the East Cape. This allows hunters to enjoy the variety of a single/multi-area hunt on the same safari, while ensuring the very best in trophy quality.

John X Safaris will provide a comprehensive packing list, ensuring you pack the right gear to cover all the bases from equipment to clothing.

Lodging:

Lodging is included in the daily rate. John X Safaris maintains excellent lodging and facilities that provide a safe and comfortable home base for your daily hunts, with all meals and amenities provided. Woodland Safari Estate is the home of John X Safaris and operational base, which is truly an experience in and of itself.

Travel Description:

You'll need to book your flights into and out of Port Elizabeth International Airport (PLZ). If you have any questions on specific arrival times, what to bring, etc. feel free to contact Gunwerks or John X Safaris any time.

Gunwerks can also help with the logistics of traveling with your firearm. PLEASE NOTE: ONLY South African Airways (SAA) / South African Express (SA Express) carry firearms domestically in South Africa. Double check when booking with either of these airlines that you are on a listed SAA / SA Express flight AND NOT a shared carrier flight. Most international flights will have layovers in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Upon arrival you will be picked up at Port Elizabeth International Airport (PLZ) with transportation to and from the airport provided.(+- 2 Hour Drive to Camp).

To facilitate easier arrival/departure days for the hunt due to the proximity from Port Elizabeth Airport, you will split your hunt into a couple of days to start in the Southern Concessions from Woodlands Safari Estate, then head north for the middle part of the hunt, then back again for the remainder of the safari. Your final itinerary will depend on your preferred target species. John X Safaris prefers this setup due to the natural range and habitat of the various species on offer, allowing the hunter to hunt the various target species in their preferred natural ranges/habitats, where the game is naturally of better quality. While doing so it also offers you three safaris in one, allowing you to see and experience the mountains, semi-desert plains and coastal valley forests – Providing a spectacular multi-area experience with more long-range hunting opportunities than anywhere else on earth. Distance between the two areas/lodges 2.5 Hours driving.

General Policies

All applicants for our training courses must be US citizens not legally barred from possessing firearms. For non-US citizens interested in a training course, please call us directly (307) 296-7300
All event attendees must complete our liability and media waiver

Student Cancellation

Hunt:
If you cancel a hunting event (other than an African hunt) more than one hundred twenty (120) days from the start of the hunt, your deposit can be moved to another class (not refundable). If canceled less than one hundred twenty (120) days from the start of the hunt, all payments toward the class are forfeited and non-refundable.

Gunwerks Class Cancellation:
In rare circumstances, Gunwerks may need to cancel a class. If this occurs, you will be notified as soon as possible and given the option of either a full refund or a move to another course of the same value. Gunwerks reserves the right to change or amend these policies at any time.

Deposit/Final Payment Schedule

A 50% deposit is required for reservation
Balance due 120 days prior to a hunt event to maintain your reservation - don't worry, we'll remind you when it's time!
