  • Compensation: $25-$40 /hr

What You’ll Be Doing as a CNC Machinist:

  • Develop, edit, and optimize complex CNC programs (G-code) to produce high-precision firearm components.
  • Perform advanced setups on CNC lathes and mills, including intricate tooling, custom fixtures, and precise work/tool offsets.
  • Design and modify specialized fixtures to ensure stability and accuracy for complex machining operations.
  • Select and manage high-performance cutting tools, optimizing tool life and ensuring alignment with CNC programs.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings and work orders (shop travelers) to meet stringent firearm specifications.
  • Conduct meticulous quality inspections using precision measuring tools, including CMM, to verify tight tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex machining challenges, including tool wear, machine malfunctions, and program errors.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on CNC equipment to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.
  • Mentor and train CNC Operators, sharing expertise and best practices to enhance their skills.
  • Operate CNC equipment as needed to produce precision components.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, adhering to all safety procedures.

Skills and Experience You’ll Need as a CNC Machinist:

Intermediate Level:

  • A technical degree (or work equivalent) and 5+ years of experience operating CNC lathes and mills, with a focus on tight tolerance machining.
  • Proficient in CNC programming (G-code) and advanced machine setup procedures.
  • Solid understanding of precision measuring tools and quality control methods.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications related to firearm components.
  • Experience in tooling selection, tool management, and fixture setup.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve basic machining issues.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems for data tracking and work order management.

Advanced Level:

  • A technical degree (or work equivalent) and 10+ years of extensive experience programming and operating complex CNC machines, particularly in high-precision industries.
  • Expertise in developing and optimizing CNC programs for complex geometries and tight tolerances.
  • Advanced knowledge of fixture design and modification for specialized machining operations.
  • Proficiency in utilizing CMM and other advanced inspection equipment.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor CNC Operators, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex machining challenges.
  • Extensive experience independently adjusting tool offsets to maintain tight tolerances and optimize production.
